Final Fantasy XVI is an action role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix for PlayStation 5 as an exclusive. At the start of the story, during a time of growing unrest in Valisthea, Clive serves as Joshua's bodyguard, known as the First Shield of Rosaria.

As Clive tries to prove himself, and Joshua prepares for his role as a Dominant and future role as the Archduke of Rosaria, the Duchy is attacked. In the battle, a second Eikon of fire, Ifrit causing widespread devastation. The tragedies that follow lead Clive to embark upon a quest of revenge, seeking out Ifrit and their Dominant.
