Final Fantasy XVI - Typhon | Part 14
Finally we get to a part of the game that's actually interesting again. We run through a dungeon with Cid and Jill to start. Cid's definitely the best character in this because he feels like he actually has a personality rather than just being mostly a blank sleight like Clive and Jill are, with only the most basic of motivations that literally anyone would get behind to drive them. He dies at the end of this part. So so much for that saving grace!
The Typhon fight is pretty cool. I like his design, the area we're in, and it's cool to see him impaled like mid-air on Ramuh's staff. Fighting mooks while he casts AoEs while he's pinned is neat. And his boss fight plays my favorite track in the game.
After beating him, we get a 5 year timeskip. Kind of comes out of nowhere... We also finally get access to our 3rd Eikon after sucking off Cid's power. Clive can only equip up to 3 and Ramuh's is easily the worst, almost guaranteed to get replaced later. His ability allows him to take aim and lock-on to enemies, then release some homing lightning balls. Once struck, the enemies hit by it will take damage, taking more the stronger the attack is. The problem with it is that it takes too damn long to aim and isn't worth the extra damage it provides when you could just, you know, be attacking normally during that time. They should have done this where you just tap circle and it shoots out all the homing attacks at once.
