In this video, we unbox and set up the Warrior wireless adapter fro Retro Fighters, which allows you to use Nintendo Wavebird on your Switch and Switch Lite.

The Nintendo Wavebird is one of the most popular controllers of all time, and for very good reason. It's very well balanced, the buttons and analog sticks are placed in great locations, its overall just a great controller. One of the issues with the Wavebird, however, is the fact that it did not utilize Bluetooth technology. That meant that it relies on its own proprietary dongle to plug into a system to be able to work. This prevents it from being usable on emulators, PCS, or even Nintendo's very own Switch and Switch Lite.

Retro Fighters, makers of some of the best controllers available for the Nintendo 64, have a new wireless adapter that allows you to use your GameCube controllers, including the Wavebird, on your Switch or PC. Dubbed The Warrior, this little adapter features ports on one side for the GameCube controllers, on the other side for the Nintendo Wii or Classic Edition controllers, and finally, there's a port on the side that will allow you to connect it to a PC via micro-USB.

The overall fit and finish of the adapter is really nice. It's compact and inspires confidence. Both the Classic Controller port and the GameCube port plug-in securely. Power is provided by two AA batteries, and playtime is quite long. The top of the Warrior features a circle button, home button, turbo button, and a - button.
I know many of you reading this may wonder why this is necessary since 8bitdo has their GBros adapter. While similar in functionality, the design is where the Warrior really rises above. the 8bitdo adapter is not compatible with the Wavebird unless you use some sort of controller extension which somewhat eliminates the functionality of the adapter in the first place. The Warrior was designed specifically to be used with the Wavebird, and the Wavebird adapter fits perfectly.

One of the most obvious uses for the Warrior will be playing fighting games such as Smash Brothers ultimate. while I am terrible at Smash Brothers, I will report that all of the button presses, moves, and inputs were correctly registered while I played. Another benefit is utilizing the Classic Controllers, eliminating the need to purchase Nintendo's NES or Super NES controllers for Nintendo online service. Again, the classic controllers work perfectly when paired with the Warrior adapter.

Why it RoX:
- Compatible with GameCube controllers, particularly the Wavebird
- Under $20
- Works with Nintendo classic controllers and controllers designed to work with the Wii
- Excellent performance and range
- Long battery life
- Easy to pair with the switch or switch light

What could be improved?
- Compatibility with the Genesis classic via USB would be really nice
- Multiple Warrior adapters required for multiplayer

Should you buy one?
If you are a competitive Smash Brothers player and want to use a GameCube controller on your Switch or Switch Lite wirelessly, this is a no-brainer. The responsiveness is good, the form factor is great, and the compatibility is outstanding. Yes, it is similar to the 8bitdo GBros adapter, but unlike that adapter, this one is directly compatible with the Wavebird dongle without needing to use an extension. Combine that with great customer service, people who will actually respond to emails or social posts, and you have a really good adapter that in my opinion is superior to the 8bitdo option.
