FINISHED THE STORY AND STILL DON'T BUY ISLE OF ARMOR FOR POKEMON SWORD AND SHIELD - Part 2 Follow Up
Crown Tundra had better be great because Isle Of Armor is not worth 50% of that $30 price tag. I finished the rest of the DLC's story and it really didn't improve from where I left off. Hop shows up after the tower and annoys you in 3 mini-quests that take a couple minutes each. Then you do a final battle where it is mentioned big things will be coming. That is really it.
It is VERY obvious that this DLC is just some filler giving back things Gamefreak took away to begin with trying to pass the time until Crown Tundra is out. One new galarian form, some gigantamax which would have made more sense to be in the base game, a soup that should have been in the base game, and some of the Pokemon they stripped out really isn't enough for me to suggest people buy the Isle of Armor DLC.
Instead I would suggest you wait until the Crown Tundra is closer and see if that is worth the majority of $30 alone, which with what we have seen it comes with so far may be the case. It only takes a few hours to beat Isle of Armor anyway so not like you will have a lot of catch up if you wait.
For anyone who missed my first video on the game here was my description from there to give my earlier thoughts:
The more I play the Isle Of Armor DLC for Pokemon Sword and Shield the more I dislike it. Datamines have proven that every new Pokemon was revealed before the DLC was out so any hope of more is gone.
Most of the Pokemon you will find added to the region are generation one Pokemon because of course Nintendo has to try to pander with it.
The level scaling in Isle Of Armor that was hyped up and talked about by people who played the pre-release doesn't appear to be functioning or isn't what they were told. One reporter explicitly stated that they asked Nintendo about scaling and they went as far as to say level 100 Pokemon would mean level 100 opponent's yet as far as I am aware this is not the case.
An entire segment of the DLC is level locked where you are expected to have a level 70 of a Pokemon you received at level 10. If it is so important that the tower can't be level scaled why am I getting it at level 10? "Friendship" growth was required already where we stared into space why am I now required to use Kubfu to level 70 to just progress.
The Alolan Digletts feel like busy work to me to add onto the hours you will get out of the DLC. I'm encouraged to look into every area but honestly the free movement camera doesn't play well with the cramped areas and feels more like a nuisance than anything.
Speaking of the free camera why do I have follow Pokemon, which you might be able to turn off I didn't deck, that now randomly pop up to block my already poor view? You would think being on the bike they would disappear but instead they just randomly teleport behind you preventing you from looking around.
I haven't completed the entire DLC and honestly I am not sure I want to at this point. I know there is no great pay out and the DLC seems entirely based around delaying me getting to the mediocre payouts with things like level grinds I am already bored of from playing the base game 40+ hours.
Unless you are desperate to personally catch generation one Pokemon so far my suggestion is wait for The Crown Tundra and pray it has better content.
