What would happen in a Fire Emblem Gaiden playthrough if you only recruited characters that are mandatory? Is Alm as good as they say? Can Celica even beat her own chapter? Let's give it a go and see if we can use Gaiden's own shenanigans against itself to make up for our fun-sized roster!

Keep in mind that this footage is unedited and was done in real time, so it is LONG. Even with the use of turbo and rewind functions on an emulator most of these chapters clocked in at at about an hour each, or two hours if the chapters have separate routes for Alm and Celica. If you just want the juicy bits, most of them will be near the beginning and end of each video with some exception.

Anyway, chapter 1 itself is surprisingly tame. Alm and Ruka are my only available units, but both very capable combat units. Ruka is made even better with his promotion and lion head speed bonus. No Silk for healing does mean I need to be more conservative with my tactics on the final map and no mercenary-promoted villagers means that Alm has to be my thundersword user, but everything runs smoothly here for the most part because Alm is just that good! His level ups this run are so good that I leave the defense lion head for Celica to use for next chapter!
