Fire Emblem Path of Radiance: Challenge Run Extras (Trial Map 5)
Random note: is this the only map in the series that shares its name with its victory condition?
This one... was a little more annoying, for one main reason. I had several failed runs here, but all of them ended on the first enemy phase, and all were due to bad deployment decisions, rather than bad decisions during the actual map.
That reason being... damn Sleep staves!!! Ugh, those things are ANNOYING! There are two Sleep Bishops right from the start, and a third spawns as a reinforcemnt. And seeing the staves have 3 uses each...
Normally this wouldn't be too bad, except that with you all spit up like this it's HIGHLY unlikely you'll be able to get a Restore staff user to your sleepyheads in time. Argh, I would kill for a long-range Restore staff right now...
The best substitute was the Ashere Staff, but I only had one use left after Ashnard. I made sure to save it until the Bishops staves had run out. Unfortunately, Nephenee was the target yet again, (it's like her one weakness) and I learnt the hard way that Provoke doesn't work on staves. Fortunately, it DOES work on long range tomes, which I found was vital. Without Nasir in the top group, all the sages would gang up on whoever was sleeping, and without the ability to dodge they quickly died. Through my failed runs, I learnt you should put your characters with high Res in the top cells. I would have put all my Mages there, but Soren needed to go with Ike, that support bonus elevates his dodge no near-Sety levels, and with his frailty, he NEEDS it.
Speaking of which, it's a good idea to try and put supported characters in the same cells. In hindsight, I should have swapped the positions of the Marcia/Illyana and Calill/Nephenee pairs, that would have given Neph more time to... be awesome. Still, I managed to AAA this anyway, and Neph still got her awesome moment in the end. (Funny story there: at 46:15, I was just thinking about how she hadn't got any Lunas so far. And then, well...)
By the way, only Ike needs to escape here, there's no reward for getting anyone else out, but I just wanted to see how many I could.
A Rank Requirements:
Tactician: 8 turns or less
Battle: 45 kills. (Including reinforcements, there's a total of 56 enemies here, so you've got a lot of leeway. I managed to get all but one.)
