Fire Emblem Three Houses Christmas Tribute: Days Gone By from MLP
Finally finished the last bits of it and got what I wanted to draw & add to the video! đ Anyways, yâall know the drill by now about copyright, unless I say so in the comments or in the video myself, I do not own anything that was used for this video aside from 5 drawings: the drawings of Edelgard, Dimitri, Claude, Flayn, & Seteth as what they could look like as creatures that live in the world of Equestria (usually, my style of drawing can be differentiated from the rest at a glance, but just letting you guys know in case you donât know). I chose this song from the MLP Christmas Album in particular, as out of all the songs in both the original & updated versions of the MLP Christmas Albums, this particular song, alongside âItâs A Pony Kind Of Christmas,â happens to be what I consider to be the best of all the songs, period, from the entire album. It also made me realize that this song has a deeper sentimental meaning behind it, as it is essentially a tribute to the family members unable to be with their loved ones for the holidays for travel reasons or they passed on.
A bit of history about the original title of the song that was covered: Auld Lang Syne was originally a Scottish poem that was later modified to be a carol sung to say farewell to the old year & welcome in the new year, which is ironic because for the past four years, Iâve honestly been dreading the next year because a certain shđ€Źhead tried to đ€Ź everything up, & all I wanted to do was go back in time to stop living in a hellhole & actually ENJOY life (THERE SHALL BE NO TALK OF THE F WORD & THE ICE TEA WITH SUGAR & HONEY IN ITS NAME ON THIS CHANNEL!). The title itself translates directly to âold long sinceâ in the modern English translation. However, what I find interesting is that this song technically is the only one from the MLP Christmas songs to truly follow the same formula as the original it covered from (in this case, Auld Lang Syne) & still managed to make it stand out as its own thing; one of the looser translations of Auld Lang Syne is actually âdays gone by,â which is the exact title of the song Applejack & her family sung.
If I had to rank the songs from the first album, Days Gone By would easily top my list for being so faithful to its source material, but still making it stand out for its original take on their cover & having impactful lyrics. It really touched my heart, & upon listening to it again for the first time this year, I almost cried because this is the first time where I wasnât able to see some of my family who lived too far away & only came on holidays & I missed them. I was looking at a Christmas video from this channel named Anime Impulse (check them out, btw, they interview a bunch of popular VAs & have fun activities), particularly the one where the VAs of Seteth, Flayn, Leonie, & Ignatz (Mark Whitten, Deva Marie Gregory, Ratana, & Christian La Monte respectively) were singing some parodies of classic Christmas holiday songs that celebrate Garrag Mach Establishment Day (basically, itâs like the FodlaĆ version of Christmas for the 3 Houses characters). Somewhere in the video, one of the songs they parodied was Auld Lang Syne, & although I think the group needed to have figured it out before recording (though I didnât mind it because those little moments where they couldnât keep it together were pure moments of joy & laughter), I remembered thinking that the song did fit to some level.
Long story short, I did a bit of research on FodlaĆ & the land formation itself, & by that, I really mean I assumed that FodlaĆ had similar elements like the Tellius games (Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn), to which the latterâs geographic bore a similarity to the real life European land of Crimea (yeah, Crimea was actually the name of a real life region back in ye olden times), & because of that logic that probably makes no sense at all even though Iâm rolling with it, I assumed that FodlaĆ had to be partially European, so when I looked it up, the wiki said that FodlaĆâs surface area was 2/3 of Europeâs entire surface area, & then I decided that part of the culture was probably Scottish & I am rambling on & on, so long story short AGAIN, I made a head canon that if this was real life, Flayn & Seteth would be part Scottish since they both love fish, & YE SCOTSMAN LOVE YE FISHIES FOR YA DINNA, DO YA? (Ignore my poor attempt at doing a Scottish accent) Since Auld Lang Syne has Scottish origins & Seteth & Flayn could possibly be Scottish in their own world of FodlaĆ (& because of how they have a huge familial relationship, the VAs irl for the two being like siblings via a common bond included), I just knew that this song had to fit for them. Too bad there isnât too many Flayn & Seteth fan art to use here, but oh well.
Anyways, thatâs all from me. This is Xiaomu Smash 14, your local Ultimate Pantheon Queen, signing out & wishing you guys a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
