First game I ever played ( Need For Speed - High Stakes )
6I got my first PC when I was about 12 for finishing my school year (yay) and my dads friend brought me 3 of his games to play one of theose three was NFS HS.
I remember loving the game so when I saw it on abandoware I knew I needed to retry it. I gave my two word evaluation at the end of the video but let me just give a few pros and cons.
PROs:
+Nostalgic fun
+The cops in HP mode are a pain in the neck
+Nice techno/house soundtrack
+Nice sound effects
+After a patch can run in higher resolutions
+Weather/damage affect driving
+Tournaments require some strategy. Do I buy a new car or upgrade the old one, do I drive faster and risk damage I'll have to repair or drive slower and have more difficulty winning.
Neither a con or a PRO
+When you're playing a 20 year old game you can't really complain about the graphics, but it does show it's age and that might be turn off for some.
+Driving is ARCADE and not at all a simulation, even with damage to cars.
CONs:
+The Sountrack is all techno/house, so it gets repetitive
+After 2/3h played the opponents seem to be on a string. You can drive perfectly and yet they'll gain on you on curtains spots on the road and loose you on others
+Race tracks unlock slowly and some races are too long. 8 laps on the same track with leading almost all of them gets old soon. Tho it does provoke mistakes in later laps.( this con might go away with harder AI in later stages of the game )
+With a few exceptions, so far the tracks are fairly unimaginative.

Need for Speed: High Stakes, known as Need for Speed: Road Challenge in Europe is a 1999 racing game released by EA for the PlayStation and Microsoft Windows.
Gameplay
It is the fourth game in the Need for Speed series, once again featuring a host of exotic sport cars and tracks located in Western Europe and North America. High Stakes is particularly notable within the series for being the first installment to include a vehicle damage model and a genre-standard "career" system. An updated Hot Pursuit mode also returns from Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit. High Stakes builds upon the previous Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit. The standard races and police pursuits are bolstered by a new type of race (High Stakes) and two new pursuit modes (Getaway and Time Trap). The now-standard career system was introduced, with its scenarios and budget balancing. Vehicle physics are also improved, chiefly with the introduction of a damage model that affects both the appearance and performance of a given vehicle.
