OMG, I remember playing Gungrave 20years ago on a PlayStation 2 haha and to be able to play the 2022 version that is not made by the same company, I was worried they'd make it an open-world kind of game. I'm so glad they didn't because as soon as I started shooting through the tutorial, the gameplay felt fresh and I still got that nostalgic feeling that I was looking for.
Glad they kept iconic elements like unlimited ammunition. Think I would've yeeted the game if I had to find ammo crates to reload haha. Demolition shots and high tempo shooting definitely have improved. With it's stylish new look and improvements, the game does feel stronger.
Back on the Main Menu I saw the history section. I was tempted to look at it but was eager to start shooting. haha. However, I am happy that it's there. It gives newcomers to the game some depth/knowledge. If you're new to this game, check out that History, it might make you appreciate the games longevity/comeback.
Stage layouts and even Grave himself looks awesome! A big thumbs up to the image director (and everyone who worked on this :) ) I love his upgrades too, to both the The Cerberus and Death Mauler. Being able to expand and strengthen his abilities/skills by upgrading is a nice touch.
The first thing I wanted to see onscreen was my beat count to be in the 100's to feel/see that RAGE haha. I love the Storm Barrage & R.I.P. Stunnin' enemies with one hit, diving into the enemy line and the use of grab. All works well. Hey, shooting 4 bullets per shot, I was ready to be badass ha! Had fun, love this game.
The storyline for this one takes place after 2004's Gungrave: Overdose. I haven't played that one but I would love to add the original Gungrave and Gungrave Overdose to my gaming library.
