Stark, hand-drawn graphics make for a surprisingly pretty game, even if it's just in black and white. What little I knew of the game before, I thought it was more of a traditional platformer with enemies to avoid or dispatch. But it turns out to be more of a puzzle platformer, manipulating the light and darkness to figure out how to get from the start, to the door at the end, and on to the next screen. The mechanic especially works well because wherever the light is not, doesn't exist. Even if you walk up to a wall with light in hand, if you walk back so that the light isn't touching it anymore, you can put the light down and walk right back to it and fall off the screen after walking into the blackness where a wall was only moments ago. Solving the puzzles then involves directly manipulating the lights to "generate" platforms and lifts. It's really rather clever.

If I have one complaint is that the game allows you to use a controller, but the tutorial/button prompts are for keyboards. It annoys me when games do that, but it's usually the opposite where I want to use a keyboard but the on-screen prompts are for a controller.

That said, while I did use a controller for this, thinking it was more of a traditional platformer, now that I know it's not, I will probably continue playing using the keyboard.
