All of the PC inventory auditing softwares mentioned in this video were recommended through comments by fellow readers in the excellent article titled:
Best Free System Information Utility
available on the Gizmo's Freeware website:
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-system-information-utility.htm
and although the recommendations were excellent, I found myself wondering which software functioned best. It is for this reason that I have downloaded, installed and tested most (if not all) of the PC inventory auditing softwares mentioned on the Gizmo's Freeware website. For each of these softwares, I have recorded a first-impression review (an overview and tour based on the first 5 minutes of testing each application).
Essentially, these softwares document hardware devices and specifications of said hardware. They may provide some benchmark testing, and may be able to identify components for which you do not have drivers installed (those that appear as an Unknown Device with a yellow question mark ( ? ) icon in Windows' Device Manager).
These programs would do so in providing the component's make (brand), model line and model number, amongst other information.
These programs will help identify and provide information about the following hardware types, amongst others: hard disk drives, display adapters ( GPU, video graphics cards ), network adapters ( network interface cards ), sound cards ( audio devices ), as well as motherboard, RAM modules ( memory ) and CPU processor components.
Note that purposefully for these tests (unless otherwise noted) no GPU video graphic card display adapter drivers nor network interface card adapter drivers were installed on the PC in test while testing these various applications.
