Die Formel 1 kehrt nach Las Vegas zurück: Ein dritter WM-Lauf in den USA ist bestätigt, gefahren wird auf einer Strecke, welche den berühmten Las Vegas Strip einschliesst – und an einem Samstag!
Der Vertrag ist unterzeichnet: Die Formel 1 und die «Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority» (LVCVA) bestätigen – ab 2023 wird es wieder einen WM-Lauf in der Spielerstadt geben, so wie 1981 und 1982. Als Termin wird lediglich bestätigt, dass der Grand Prix im November stattfinden wird.
Die LVCVA ist eine Bundesbehörde und die offizielle Marketing-Organisation von Süd-Nevada. Ihr gehören das «Las Vegas Convention Center» (ein Gelände, wo etwa die weltweit grösste Messe für Unterhaltungs-Elektronik stattfindet, die «Consumer Electronics Show» CES) und die Las Vegas-Monorail.
Unterschied zu den 1980er Jahren: Die Piste ist kein peinlicher Micky-Maus-Kurs auf dem Hotelparkplatz des Caesars Palace, sondern ein aufregender Strassenkurs, der den Las Vegas Strip mit einschliesst.
Weiterer Unterschied zu den 1980ern: Die Rückkehr nach Vegas ist als Nachtrennen geplant. Wieso Nacht und wieso Samstag? Weil ein Nachtrennen dann in den USA zur Hauptsendezeit im Fernsehen kommt und erfahrungsgemäss am Samstagabend in den USA mehr Leute vor dem Fernseher sitzen als am Sonntag.
