DESCRIPTION ▼
Since launching in 1994, the PlayStation 1 has required physical alteration to the hardware to reliably play backup PlayStation 1 games until this month. A new hack was discovered this month called tonyhax, which allows a user to play backup CD-Rs without the need for a modchip - which is known as a "Softmod". Softmods are extremely common in the more recent generations of hardware due to the sophistication and size of OSes. This hack takes advantage of lack of checking what is written in memory from a save file which in-turn leverages access to insert a payload to send an instruction to the cd drive to not check for copy protection of CDs The great thing about this hack is that it will work on all PlayStations and will not permanently damage the system
