Fixed my USB issue with powered hubs feat. Razer USB 4 Dock (and Thunderbolt 4 Dock comparison)
362I've been having issues where some USB ports would just stop working. I thought it was a faulty motherboard, then I bought a new one and had the same issues... realized it had to be something else, because the USB devices were working too. Seems like it was a power issue, so I had to get some powered USB hubs. I've had my eye on the Razer USB Docks for a while so I figured it was time to try them. Bought one, was sent the other for testing. Both are solid, just depends what you want and the price you can get them.
If you're wondering why I wanted 2... I have 2 main systems, one for gaming/recording game footage/testing/editing, and another for mostly studio work, and both have a lot of USB devices plugged in). So instead of trying to split your USB ports among monitors or unpowered USB hubs, you may want to just buy a powered USB hub to avoid problems.
Hope this experience helps others. If you're having trouble with USB ports, it might be because you're overloading your system!
If I'm wrong about the overloading-motherboard-USB power thing, please let me know! I couldn't find any information on it, but given that a powered USB hub was all I changed to fix it, it seems like that's the case. And same deal with the Display over USB thing, very few people seemed to know why it wasn't working, then I realized I had to actually get a motherboard or laptop that had display-over-usb on it. Wanted to get this info out there for anyone else struggling to work it out!
