(FIXED!) YouTube Android app won't play after rotate screen -- workaround w/ picture-in-picture

People are review-bombing the YouTube Android app about this since 11/6/24, so I guess it isn't just me--seems to be a bug in the latest update of the app.
After rotating the screen to landscape and back, if you stop the video, clicking the play button will not cause it to resume, and pressing the back arrow button causes the current video to move off the right side of the screen--if it was playing at the time, audio will continue for the now-offscreen video.
These problems persist until you close the app. I've tried clearing cache and data, uninstalling updates, rebooting, and reinstalling, but the problem still comes back.
If picture-in-picture is enabled, there is slightly laborious workaround: in landscape playback, hit the down arrow button in the upper left to send the video to picture-in-picture, rotate the screen to portrait, and click on the picture-in-picture to restore the video to the screen in portrait orientation--and playback will still be working. Or, if playback in landscape is stuck, click that same down arrow in the upper left to send it to picture-in-picture, click the play button at the bottom of the small picture-in-picture screen to restart playback, then click the middle of the picture-in-picture to blow it back up to full screen, now playing. Also, while playback will stop if you drag the play progress bar's round red play position marker, you can instead double-tap on the left or right side of the video during playback to change the play position.
Hopefully they fix this broken playback problem soon! Reminds me of those bad old days when all we had was the web app and it would randomly just stop playing at points in a video and sometimes you just couldn't persuade it to start again. ; PPP
My phone is an ancient Pixel 3a, before they started putting that silly camera block or whatever sticking out of the back. = PP I don't know if this bug still occurs on more recent phones.
