This is a Flappy Bird inspired game, but there are also items to collect, objectives to complete, and it is possible to complete this game. The standard Flappy Bird games is just high score games, where it is all about flying as long time as possible without flying into anything.
This game is a tribute to Sir Clive Sinclair and his 80th birthday. The game is inspired by the Sinclair QL TV commercial, the Flappy Bird ZX game by Rafal Miazga & Aleksandr Rostunovand, and Zosya Entertaiment's Valley of Rains.
The aim of the game is to unlock 40 trophies. You can enter the trophy room from the main menu by pressing "T" and return to the main menu by pressing "R". In the trophy room you can see what to do to unlock some of the trophies, and some of them you have to figure out how to unlock by yourself.
You control Sir Clive Sinclair doing his quantum leap from the Sinclair QL TV commercial, all controlled by the space key. By pressing space he will leap and by doing nothing he will fall down. There are two playmodes - A blue and a red, to choose from the menu screen. The blue is easier with bigger gaps to go through. The piles in this game is off course made of stacked computers!
There are two types of gameplay; one where you have to collect hearts, coins, cakes and ZX Spectrums, and one where there is only letters. You then have to collect the letters in the correct order to spell a word.
Making a Flappy Bird game with objectives is a good idea, but the gameplay has some problems because the items seems to be placed absolutely random on the screen. This means that many of the games is impossible to complete. You have infinite lives but you might have to try to complete some of the objectives for winning a trophy 10-20 times before you get a game where it is actually possible. The problem is that you have to collect a certain amount of a specific item without collecting some other items, which can be impossible because the gaps is blocked with the items you not may collect, and especially the levels with the letters and long words can be extremely difficult to be able to complete.
Some of the hidden trophies is also absolutely weird to get, and can be a problem to figure out how to get, but you get a hint in the instructions: "It is all about what you do, or not do" -and then it is actually just a matter of doing or not doing the same things enough times on the different screens.
The game is made with the Mojon Twins MK1 engine, and it is the first game with this engine to feature scrolling screen gameplay, and the trophy/achievement element is also new for this engine.
Flappy Clive was participant in the Mojon Twins MK1 2020 competition.
