Flicky (Genesis) Playthrough: Round 1-6
I haven't put a retro arcade game on here in a long time. My Donkey Kong videos are still among the highest-viewed videos on my entire channel.
Now I'm playing around with a classic Arcade game that Sega made. This one is a rather-significant one. This started out as an Arcade game, but then it was ported to the Sega Genesis, which is the version I'm playing, here.
Sega created this game in the 80s as a way to compete against Namco's Mappy, as both Mappy and Flicky involve having cats as persistent enemies and jumping between multiple floors.
In Flicky, however, rather than retrieving stolen goods, you play as the titular momma bird and help her find her baby Chirps and bring them to the exit door (some of them wearing sunglasses for some reason). Along the way, the cats, named Tigers, will try to chase you down. You can pick up different objects, such as telephones, flower pots, coffee pots, teacups, and chairs, and throw them at the cats to defeat them by jumping, or hitting the jump button while falling with an object.
If those Tigers touch any Chirps following you, they will disperse and you will have to pick them up again, but if those cats touch your Flicky, you die! Killing the cats will occasionally drop gems for more points. There are also iguana enemies, named Iggys, that you'll see later on.
On paper, anyone can beat the game, but its harder to beat it with a higher score. you get more points if you can bring in all of the Round's Chirps to the door at the same time. You also wanna try to do this in under 20 seconds for a good Time Bonus. Every level is set up for that, but I don't always reach it.
After a few Rounds, the next Round will be a Bonus Round where you have to catch those chicks from falling off the screen after they're tossed into the air by the Tigers. Get them all to receive a Perfect Bonus, but each Bonus Round will have the chirps drop in different ways, so act and respond accordingly!
There are 48 Rounds in total, and I'm gonna be showing 6 of them per video!

Yes, before these blue birds showed up in Sonic, they started out in their own game. The way this game plays also shows what Sonic 3D Blast was inspired by.
