Flipped Farters?! Part #36: Cobalt Is Not Useless (ONI: Spaced Out!)
1In this VOD of my Flatulent-only ONI: Spaced Out run, we get a Cobalt Volcano hooked up to our cold metal volcano taming network. Cobalt has very good Thermal Conductivity and substantially less Specific Heat Capacity than Aluminium, while also packing a higher melting temperature, making it quite suitable for heat-transfer devices in builds. We also do some maths involving how many self-cooled Steam Turbines you need to manage a metal volcano. We get slightly confused but get there in the end. Also, don't worry, you can cool an Aluminium Volcano with two actively cooled Steam Turbines. I'll go over the maths for that in the next video. Cycles 616-626 are in this video.
The overall aim of the run is to get to the late game without the performance issues that have sort of crippled previous runs. So we're going to keep a low dupe count (probably around 10 per asteroid max long term), a responsibly managed critter population, and do our best to tidy up the materials on our various asteroids. Hopefully we'll end up making some interesting designs without losing all of our frames!
