8Kirby will start to have trouble floating after 5 seconds (150 frames), regardless of how much effort you put into keeping him up. Spamming air bullets does make it last longer because technically he isn't floating for a period of time, but it is trickier to do and loses height faster.
NOTE: longer duration does not necessarily mean longer distance. Depending on the terrain and timing, spamming air bullets can be better for distance
