Might and Magic III: Isles of Terra sound when using FluidSynth with the OPL-3 FM 128M SoundFont for the MIDI samples. This SoundFont was made specifically to emulate the sound of OPL3, the FM synthesiser of the SoundBlaster 16, so if you compare this with the SoundBlaster 16 recording, you'll be able to tell how the MIDI and FM subsystems of the game differ.

In-game setup tool is set to "Roland & Blaster" for MIDI output.

FluidSynth uses SoundFonts, which makes it easy to swap out whole instrument sets, but more difficult to edit individual instruments.
