GAMEPLAY BASICS
The game will take a while to download after it is first launched. It took my game around 10 minutes to finish downloading the internal data (which was a 500mb-sized file). You may be stuck on the loading screen for a while, with the loading bar jumping between 100%, 90% and so on.
In FNAF: AR, an animatronic is 'delivered' to your door. The goal is to deactivate the animatronic with an electric shock. When you 'answer' the door (tap the camera button when you hear a doorbell), you have to look around for static (the 'cloaking device' animatronics have). The strongest area where static is signals that it's where the animatronic is. Animatronics will move around while cloaked, so you have to follow the static. When the animatronic attacks, your phone will buzz and you will see eyes running at you. The animatronic may or may not attack (if it stays invisible besides its eyes, it's a fake-out). When it truly attacks, the rest of its body will become visible as it gets closer. Once you see the uncloaked figure, you need to shock it. If successful, the animatronic will stop short. If unsuccessful, the animatronic will continue until it reaches you, and a jumpscare will happen shortly after.
The difficulty of a capture depends on the animatronic. You can guess which animatronic you have via sound cues (stomping is the endo, a sound akin to walking on metal is Foxy, Chica and Bonnie make groaning sounds (which they had in FNAF 1 etc), and so on). Endos simply attack, while the actual characters such as Freddy tend to move a lot. If you see static and the character suddenly appears in front of you (instead of running at you) along with screen glitching, quickly face to the floor. If you aren't quick enough, the animatronic may jumpscare you immediately.
Once you shock your first Endo, it is captured for use as a parts finder. If you click on the icon in the lower right corner of your screen (Freddy and a wrench), you can view your Endo. Your options are 'deploy' (send to look for parts or to scare a friend) and 'assemble' (add mods, plush suits and CPUs to enhance its searching mode as well as the look of the skeleton). More Endo slots will open as you play, meaning you can send more to search for parts. You have to use parts to repair the Endos as well. Equipping mods to Endos will (I think) make encounters easier based on each mod's description.
FAQ
Q: How do I add friends?
A: Click on your user icon in the top left corner (which is a cupcake by default), then move to the middle tab option that says 'friends' on your user screen. Click on the blue 'invite friends' option, then select what form of social media you want to invite your friends from. Alternatively you can select the 'email' option, then copy and paste the link that you're given to send to your friends.
Q: Faz Tokens? How do I get them?
A: Faz Tokens ('Faz-coins' in FNAF AR) are the micro-transaction currency for this game. You start out with a few (I was given 150 at the start of the game), but to get more you must use real money to buy them.
Q: Do I NEED Faz Tokens (Faz-coins)?
A: No. You can collect CPUs, plush suits and more by simply playing the game and getting higher streaks. If you want to get a lure for a certain animatronic, however, they are only available via Faz-coins. This game does not have an energy bar (remnant is not an energy system), so you won't have to buy energy to keep playing.
Q: How does remnant work?
A: Remnant is just a collectible floating sphere. It acts as a leveling system (ie. collect 20 remnant overall, get to level 1; collect 80 remnant overall, get to level 2. These are examples, not the actual remnant amounts needed to level up). The higher your remnant level, the easier it will be to combat more difficult animatronics (though at higher streaks it will be nearly impossible to tell).
Q: There’s white static appearing during an encounter!
A: This will happen at higher encounter streaks. Simply shake your phone to negate it. Springtrap causes constant static, and the concept is the same when facing him.
Q: Your max streak is 7? Pfffffft.
A: I only played the game for an hour and was able to reach 7. If I put in more hours, I could probably get to 20 easily. The highest known streak as of uploading this video is 15; last night when I recorded, it was 13.
Q: So what do Endos actually do?
A: When sent to salvage, endoskeletons will return with what I call ‘scrap’ (called ‘parts’ in-game). Parts are used to buy transponders and radio jammers (which are detailed in the video) and to repair your salvaging Endos.
