We finally got a brand-new chapter in the Five Nights at Freddy’s universe — and it's the third proper adventure game by Steel Wool Studios. As a big fan of Security Breach, I was excited to see how Secret of the Mimic would stand out — and it absolutely does with its fresh direction, darker tone, and retro theatrical aesthetic.
Step into the eerie remains of Murray’s Costume Manor, where reclusive inventor Edwin Murray left behind a dark legacy and a terrifying prototype: The Mimic. This endoskeleton adapts to any costume… even the ones you fear most.
While not as expansive as Security Breach, Secret of the Mimic offers a rich and atmospheric experience. From handcrafted environments full of lore, to new animatronic characters like Jackie and Nurse Dollie, there’s so much to discover. Both are standout additions, though I wish Jackie had more time in the spotlight.
Though some VR-inspired mini-games (like the repeated target shooting or crane puzzle) could feel repetitive, the chase sequences are among the best in the series — thrilling, fair, and intense. The story and exploration really carry the experience, and the setting itself — a twisted warehouse-theatre where animatronics are built and leased — adds new depth to the FNAF mythos.
Secret of the Mimic may not outdo Security Breach in scale, but it’s easily Steel Wool’s best release since, even surpassing the Ruin DLC. I’m beyond curious to see where the FNAF universe heads next!
