The huge number of events in Forge of Empires increased the relevance of event buildings significantly. But buildings which once were one of the best in the game are less than average after climbing a couple of ages/eras. Due to the renovation kit, event buildings can be brought to the city's current age, making the player being happy with it much longer.

Renovation kits always bring buildings to the city's current age, independent of what age/era it had before.
Beside the renovation kits there are also the plus-1-kits. They advance an event building to the next age/era. But it can never exceed the city's current age.

Many players already used the comments below my videos asking for the best purpose of renovation kits.

First of all never use renovation kits for event buildings that you use for forge point production only. In the new age they will still produce the same number of forge points. A Shrine of Knowledge would provide more coins, but the more important forge point will not change after renovation. Bringing a forge point building to a higher age/era can even be a disadvantage in some cases, as some event buildings require more population after renovation, as demonstrated here with the terrace farms. The only advantage would be to receive some more ranking points, but these do not really help your city.

Buildings with fighting bonus, both attack and city defense, are not good targets for renovation kits. Indeed the bonus can grow with some specific ages, but a single % more bonus is not worth a renovation kit as these are very valuable and should be used wisely.

Players in the lower ages often wonder what would be the best target for their renovation kits. The best answer for them often is: No target at all. In the lower ages it is best to collect renovation kits in the inventory. These will be important in the Modern Era and above.

Especially with the Modern Era event buildings start to become very important for producing goods. But after the city advances to the next era the building still produces the old goods. Therefore these event buildings used for good production have to be renovated. Suddenly you will have a shortage of renovation kits.

After advancing to a new era, especially Postmodern Era and above, it is very popular to renovate a champion retreat immediately after entering the new era so that the Alcatraz can start immediately to produce these heavy units.

Many players don't know that upgrade kits have the same effect as renovation kits, as demonstrated here with a Tholos from the Postmodern Era being renovated to the Tomorrow Era by using Tholos Upgrade Kits. If you advance to a new Era after an event it can be a great idea to wait with the final upgrade until you reached the new Era. Of course this also works well with 'The Ship'.
