0Film vychází z historického románu Fog in August. Zaobírá se jednou z temných epizod německých dějin a to Nacistickým programem eutanázie během Třetí říše.
Centrem dění je osud 13-ti letého chlapce Ernsta Lossa, který je poslán do psychiatrické léčebny v roce 1942, protože pochází rodiny cestovatelů. Brzy zjišťuje pravdu o této léčebně a sabotuje program eutanázie, aby pomohl svým novým kamarádům, ale tyto akce nezůstanou bez povšimnutí...
