Formula 1 (1997) - Every PC F1 Game
Formula 1 by Bizarre Creations/Psygnosis, 1997.
The first 3D graphics hardware powered F1 game, supporting the 3Dfx Glide chipset, along with Rendition and Direct3D. This clips shows the Glide version running via the dgVoodoo2 wrapper.
1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 The gameplay on this is more arcade than simulation (even though there's modes for both. The cars are rooted to the ground throughout, but the tracks are generally well modelled, given this was PlayStation 1 era! The commentary is fun, if a bit stilted.
2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:33 The spray effects here are actually quite decent. The "TV" cameras which float down the circuit are a bit more annoying!
3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 0:45 It's quite dark in the tunnel on this game! Note: the rear wing being cut off is a glitch with the dgVoodoo2 wrapper currently.
4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 0:59 There are some rudimentary wet weather effects applied, including fogging and spray.
5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 1:16 Pitstops are a rather unexciting menu-then-wait approach! Note: the rear wing being cut off is a glitch with the dgVoodoo2 wrapper currently.
6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 1:35 Crashes don't do a huge amount of damage, hence the arcade feeling to proceedings. You can knock wings off (plus off of competitors), but it feels a bit like driving into moving brick walls! It's also amusing how the commentary makes pile-ups sound positive!
