This has been out for ages, but I only picked it up fairly recently (after seeing it on sale for a very bargain-tastic price) and only got around to actually trying it out for the first time today.

Hrrrm, not sure what to make of this one. I love the graphics, I'm a big fan of these retro Virtua Racing style visuals, especially when they're nice and smooth and running at 60fps (which you won't get the full benefit of here as this was captured directly from my PS4 which only does 30fps at 720p). Control is sharp and responsive and this plays in the Virtua Racing style of arcade racer, so no drifting or powerslides, just regular break and acceleration to get around the tight corners.

I can't see what the point of the damage meter is though, it's more of an annoyance than anything else, especially when combined with the fact the CPU cars will drive into you sometimes. Collision with a CPU is really over the top, which is something I'm not especially liking. If you just clip a CPU you seem to get catapulted away from them, which sometimes ends up with you embedded in a barrier which gets annoying. it makes overtaking far more stressful than it needs to be, as a tiny bit of contact as you're going around a hairpin can then result in you getting thrust off the track and ending up coming to a total standstill. In fairness to the game though, Vitrtua Racing also played like this, although it felt like the leeway in that between a scrape and full on collision was a bit more forgiving. I've had a few times when I've shunted a CPU car from behind and it was like I was superglued to it, I couldn't just shake it off and in the end I had to break to disentangle myself.

There's a real lack of variety in the music too, only 3 tracks as far as I can tell and they get repetitive really quickly. I'm kinda mindful here that I think the developer is a one man show, so I think it's probably unfair to expect something of the same level of quality as Hotshot Racing, which had help in the end from Sumo Digital. But, ehhh, just a few things here that are stopping me from REALLY enjoying it.
