Formula Retro Racing - World Tour (2023) - Every PC F1 Game
Formula Retro Racing - World Tour by Repixel8/CGA Studio, 2023.
A sequel to 2020's Formula Retro Racing, this one expands the car selection into a range of 1950s,1970s/1980s F1, prototype and drift vehicles (where the latter always slide sideways). The selection of tracks from the previous game (including real-life Fuji and Monaco) have been dropped, in their place are 18 world location fictional tracks, featuring iconic scenery from each location around the track (but not in any way a real life road layout!).
The developers wisely ditched the bloom effect, making this look even more Virtua Racing like, but the flat polygons often lack lighting so it can look flatter than it should be! Tracks are varied, with some being quite technical, some flat out ovals (one based on Talladega) and some drift specific circuits with large sweeping bends.
As before, the sun is always shining(!), the music is cute but repetitive (disabled here) and the gameplay is pretty playable. There's a new cockpit view too, which is nice.
1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 No Monza in the game, so here's some Rome instead, with a typically chaotic few turns!
2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:29 A Snowdonia Drift track here, showcasing a less cityscape background.
3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 0:48 There's no Monaco this time, but here's a flashy tunnel from Las Vegas (based on the real-life Fremont Street).
4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 1:06 No Spa, so this is part of the Sao Paulo city track, with some sweeping hills.
5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 1:26 Sao Paulo again here, there's no pitstop, if you run out of damage you'll just explode and lose some time!
6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 1:40 Here's Montreal (the city) showing how you can destroy rivals by smashing into them... until your damage reaches maximum!
