[Brief 1st impressions of Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1]

After a long break, I finally decided to give Fortnite another go. Other than maybe a few rounds during the "OG" season, I hadn't really played Fortnite since Chapter 4 ended. Don't get me wrong, I thought bringing the OG stuff back was cool, but I was really getting into Chapter 4. Now that Chapter 5 is out, I decided to see what was new in the game. So far, while I really liked the cyberpunk themes in Chapter 4, Chapter 5 seems pretty decent in its own way. I had joked in the past about Fortnite not having a public transportation season, and now I see there is a train on the map. I haven't fully explored the new map's POIs, but so far, I'm seeing a good variety of environments, and it's nice to see that boss battles and vaults are still a thing this season. The bosses seem to be lacking a bit in intelligence (e.g. staring at a wall when I'm standing right next to them), but they are ok. I haven't fully come to understand how the power ups work yet, but after collecting multiple of them during the round in this video, they seemed to be quite helpful. Maybe Epic somehow heard me lol Replacing the daily quests with match quests, I think, is a nice change for earning extra XP. The Battle Pass isn't really capturing my interest this time around, but I see that Epic snuck some V-Bucks into the bonus rewards pages, which might increase players' motivation to play more (and/or spend more money). I haven't really explored the purpose of the cars, jams, and instruments that can now be acquired from the item shop, so I don't fully know how those work yet. I see LEGO characters can now be acquired, included with the non-LEGO versions of themselves.
