I take a look at just what differences FOV (Field of View) makes in titles, by using 2 of the most popular games currently, Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and Far Cry 3.
In this video, I use the single player mode of both Black Ops 2 and Far Cry 3, and stand in the same spots with the adjusted FOV levels. For black ops 2, I selected a part fairly early on in the campaign (to avoid spoilers). I had to manually reload the game after EACH FOV change, so please note that I am as close as possible to standing in the exact same spot (say within a few inches).
Call of Duty Black Ops 2 has recently experienced a patch which allows a Field of View of 90, and you can see the difference an FOV of 90 makes compared to the default of 65.
Far Cry 3 is a different beast - its engine doesn't require a restart, so the location is exactly the same. You will see I use a sniper rifle to pinpoint the same spot at all times.
It's worthy of note that FC3 goes all the way up to an FOV of 110. I show off an FOV of 65, 90 and 110 to illustrate the differences.
I show the views on a top / bottom and then a fade, so you can see the difference between the 2 FOV levels on the fly.
All footage is recorded on both games at max settings, and at 1080P to best illustrate the resolution many gamers for the PC will want to be playing at.
