Frantic Freddy (Colecovision Game) - Skill 2 Longplay
- Frantic Freddy (Colecovision Game) - Skill 2 Longplay -
In Frantic Freddy a massive fire consumes an apartment complex, imperiling lives and trapping cats amid the flames. Players take on the role of Freddy, a brave firefighter with the mission to extinguish fires and rescue stranded felines.
With a joystick in hand, players maneuver Freddy through the dangerous inferno, skillfully aiming water jets to quell fires while navigating through falling debris. The game's dynamics switch between ground levels, where Freddy avoids obstacles and directs water upwards to put out flames, and climbing between floors, aiming sideways to tackle more aggressive fires.
On harder levels, breaks between fires reveal cats in windows, demanding Freddy's attention to prevent life loss. The primary goal remains unchanged: save lives, including those of helpless cats, portraying Freddy as the town's hero. The challenge amplifies as players traverse the burning structure, balancing the pressing need to fight fires with the rescue of trapped animals.
Overall, it's a nice game, but its lasting appeal comes from its high difficulty starting at Skill 3, rather than its variety. A few more stages, and we'd be talking about a little hidden gem from the 80s
Despite the continued absence of cats, Skill 2 ramps up the challenge significantly. The first loop passes without major issues, but the second one hints at the intensity of Skill 3 and, notably, 4. I found myself using more lives than anticipated to tackle fires in the second stage of the second loop. The brief moments I played in the first stage of the third one revealed that mastering each skill won't be anything close to a walk in the park.
Ps. Not to be confused with Frantic Freddie for the C64. Our Freddy here is a fire-fighter, the other one is a telephon line engineer, lol.
