If you have ever used Freedompop, it is a nifty cheap phone option. It can even be FREE, or as close as anything these days, if you follow a few steps.

This video walks you through the steps to take a new Unite hot spot down to the free service level. Keep in mind that it is $10 to purchase the device, and then $15 to downgrade it.

After that you have a minimum of 200 meg of 4g per month for free using ATT towers. This benefits me as I travel to a few locations where my Sprint network does not exist.
