Freedoom: The FOSS Version of Doom
So this isn't really a review of Freedoom, but a video about why I think it still matters even though we have countless mods available for Doom 1 and 2. The project was envisioned to be a free and open source alternative for those that not only couldn't afford the games, but to also create a product that was independent and accessible to everyone, and could be modified and updated at any time. Freedoom was more than just a free game, but an example, a statement of what a truly free game looks like.
Also, it's great to talk about Doom again.
Notes:
I'm playing a more updated version of the project. There are plenty of earlier
versions you can find online.
I'm using the GZDoom sourceport.
The intro was an idea I had fun with. I don't care if you quick-save or not, I do it all the time.
