Freespace: Between the Ashes - Going Out With a Bang
6This is the nineteenth and final mission of the Between the Ashes campaign anthology's first campaign, Slaves of Chaos. BtA is a series of three campaigns for Freespace 2, all set between the events of Silent Threat: Reborn and the start of the Freespace 2 campaign.
The HLD Frontier has been destroyed, but the GTD Intrepid's engagement with the HLD Cardinal was a tactical defeat due to the Hammer of Light's employment of torpedo decoys. In this mission, we rejoin the Intrepid under way to the Beta Aquilae jump node, with the Cardinal in hot pursuit. Our fighter will be outfitted with a prototype torpedo decoy of our own. A second decoy is being prepared but won't be ready for several minutes. When it is, Epsilon wing will launch to take over decoy duties and our role will become the destruction of the Cardinal's decoys and the interdiction of Ozymandias' escape.
Unlike previous Freespace content on the channel, this is going to be a blind first play! Between the Ashes was released during my decade off from this game, so all of this will be brand new to me as I play it. A sequel, Between the Ashes 2, is in development, but won't release until 2022.
