I expected armored core, I did not get armored core.
It plays ok, but has a few control quirks. It does not really show in the demo, but I also noticed there is no way to not take damage if you are overwhelmed. An other review stated that you will systematically run out of fuel and get killed this way. I believe that you can (have to?) build to have better fuel sustainability but then it means you HAVE to build a certain way, which contradicts the premise of being able to build however you want.
Speaking of building, I am really not fond of every part being only cosmetic. The skill trees (where you boost/change actual stats) are also railroading you in a particular direction, you can not really specialize in anything, you can only have a bit more or less of some stats. Worse is how you have very little control over your weapon. You will always have equipped a melee weapon, a bullet weapon, an energy weapon, a missile/rocket launcher and an energy based weaponized module. These weapons can be changed to fire differently, but there are obvious bests and worsts and the inability to specialize in anything means you will have experimented with all possibilities very fast.

tldr : great visual customization, terrible mechanical customization, ok gameplay.
