This clip shows that you won't have always be lucky with GUS (unfortunately for one of my most liked games). The game has native support for GUS but sounds rather bad some instruments are mising or wrong the instruments patch for FFE would need a revision (many tracks of the score sound wrong). Emulated in DOSBox together with a recent soundfont it sounds best.
