Plastic cased telescoped ammo and polymer cased 6.8 mm cartridges might be the way of future military weapon systems. We're talking about a potential 40% reduction in weight which means we can toss an extra hundred rounds on you while keeping the weight the same. In all seriousness, composite ammo is making a huge leap in advances thanks to new manufacturing techniques. These new 6.8 mm Next Generation Squad Weapons will replace the M-16 and the M249 current 5.56 rounds.
