G-DARIUS - 2 PLAYER (ARCADE / PS2 - FULL GAME)
41Zeus presents G-Darius for the Arcade played on my PS2, a true classic from the golden era of arcade gaming which must not be forgotten alongside the software house and all programmers that were involved in making this game.
Year of release: 1997
The fourth game in the arcade series, a sequel to Darius Gaiden and once again full of fish references, from basic baddies to bosses,...fish fish and more bloody fish :-/ What is it about these games that revolve around fish?! I even looked up Gaiden in Dictionary and internet to see if it was a name for some kind of marine life but nope,...means nothing.
Anyway, the game it'self i found was ok, more fun in 2-player mode it has to be said but we both found something was missing from this shmup, it just wasn't exciting enough and didn't have any "come back and play again" factor, the music started to get annoying as it just doesn't seem to fit the game too well, there are many piano sequences which doesn't really go well with a shmup, you can certainly tell this is from Japan,...it has that feeling all over it.
The graphics are quite nice, polygons mixed in with 2D backgrounds, many stages to choose from as you progress through the game and many weird baddies to contend with.
If you are a hard core Darius fan then you may hold this close to your heart, but for a fanatic shmup fan like myself, i sadly won't be coming back in the near future to replay this.
As this is from a PS2 compilation, i cannot be for sure how accurate this is, only hard core G-Darius arcade fans will know for sure if there are any differences.
