It's Darius, now in 3D! You can now capture enemies by using capture balls, which they can then assist you until you happen to do something like hold down the fire button to unleash an all-powerful beam attack. There's also different areas that can be accessed in each zone by staying at the top or the bottom of the screen when the chance appears.
The version played was Ver. 2, which adds a Beginner Course where you can play the first three stages. Yeah, I'm gonna say... I felt like it was coincidental since Gradius III had one as well.
An HD remaster of the game called G-Darius HD was released with Darius Cozmic Revelation for consoles, and later on Steam on its own.
