2I'm working my way through all the Boulder Dash games. This is Boulder Dash Part 2 (or at least that's the closest thing to it Twitch knows of).
Boulder Dash Part 2 was created by Data East Corporation on a license from First Star Software in 1990, when I was 14. It was available in game arcades, and I once played it at one many years later. It featured many additional creatures and mechanics including walls that expand vertically as well as horizontally, oil and flame dispensers, butterfly pupae, turtles, earthworms, spiders, frost and flame bugs and magic gems which when dropped can give you extra time, bonus score, or turn all boulders into diamonds. Other changes include Rockford cannot be killed by falling diamonds and moves at the same speed on all levels.
It ran at a framerate slightly slower than NTSC. I have fixed this video to have that framerate as well as a square pixel aspect ratio. However if you view it on a 60hz monitor, it will still not appear smooth. Faster monitors may work better.
