This game is one of several games from the "Choro Q" series in disguise and Choro Q has a very complicated history. Having various names in the U.S. and Europe such as Penny Racers, Gadget Racers, Road Trip, etc., this game goes through the trouble of throwing a Gadget Racers logo into the movie and on the title screen, but having a lot of references to Choro Q everywhere else, such as when you win a race and some circuit names. Why couldn't they just call it Choro Q in the U.S.? Atlus was probably wondering the same thing when they localized the strange "Choro Q" in the U.S. (Choro Q HG 4 in Japan) for PS2 in 2004, which is like a driving RPG like some of its predecessors.

While modern Choro Q is compared to racing games like Gran Turismo and Mario Kart, it's probably an unfair comparison on their own. After all, CQ video games originated in the mid 80s and CQ in general originated in the late 70s. Regardless, Choro Q is a fun series as a whole.

This game has the level of customization you'd expect to find from games like Gran Turismo but the cartoony visual stylings of games like Mario Kart, along with a few of its own innovations, making it lots of fun for the patient gamer. The different modes you can unlock and the highly imaginative track designs for numerous courses really breathe life into an otherwise cutesy game. The only really annoying thing that I can think of is that the "rubberband physics" are fierce in this game and only for first/second place, so practice well. You can even play cooperatively or competitively with up to four players! Choro Q is rather popular in Japan and has games for many popular systems out there. We have a few of the Choro Q games. Good luck finding them all! Enjoy.
