An old school arcade space shooter that shared many similarities to Taito's "Night Striker" from 1989, Galactic Storm featured battles in the depths of outer space, as well as on the surface of alien planets. Other parts of the game featured scenes on alien planets that felt reminiscent of Sega's Afterburner series.

Players controlled a spaceship with twin gunners, that also had a secondary attack mechanism that unleashes a wave of electrifying orbs that blast away enemies. While Galactic Storm's spaceship uses similar white orbs to attack enemies just as Night Striker did, the ships look totally different. In Night Striker players controlled what appeared to be a futuristic car.

One of the interesting things to note about this game was its use of mechs! You battle mechs in just about every scene of the game really.

Taito's use of 2D sprite scaling almost makes the game feel like it was 3D in terms of its visuals.
