Game Analytics for Game User Research - Anders Drachen, PhD
In this talk, Anders Drachen, Ph.D. will focus on how the game analytics toolkit fits into the daily operations of game development, whether you are in a small or big studio, and how it intersects games user research in particular.
Game analytics provides new ways to conduct user research, counteracting some of the weaknesses of traditional approaches while retaining essential compatibility with the methodologies of games user research. This talk provides an overview of what game analytics is and how it fits within the daily operations of game development across studio sizes, with an emphasis on the intersection with GamesUR and the synergies that can be practically leveraged across analytics and user research.
The value proposition of game analytics to game user research is simple: game analytics provides new ways to conduct research, counteracting some of the weaknesses of traditional approaches while retaining essential compatibility with the methodologies of GamesUR.
To use terminology from ‘Doom’, we are going from a single-barreled shotgun to a double-barreled one – with a grenade launcher slung underneath.
Anders will cover the theory of game analytics and what questions it can answer; how game analytics is performed; and what game analytics can offer to games user research practitioners.
