4Many people thought the announcement of Square Enix was an April fools gag but it was a real merger that brought the already enormous franchises of Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Kingdom Hearts and their merchandising, films, tv shows, manga and soundtracks under one roof.
Currently Square Enix is one of the most valuable gaming companies in the world with a market cap of over $6 billion.
The news in 2023 wasn’t all that good though as the company’s new title, Forespoken, reportedly cost $100 million to make, but was a critical and commercial failure that left many reviewers wondering what the money had been spent on…
