Game Critic Plays Dungeon Siege II for First Time
1An oldschool gamer plays the Steam game, Dungeon Siege II for the first time. This video was created for journalistic purposes.
This game, as it turns out, is slightly less finicky than the first Dungeon Siege game. For those of you who want to record video of this game or want to play it in Windowed mode, this actually seems to require two steps. First, you have to go to your Steam game via the Steam client. From there, you have to right click and "Manage". In the new window, there is a line on the right hand side (bottom) that gives you game options. In the line that allows you to put in text, this line of code works for me: "fullscreen=false height=600 width=800 nointro=true noloadintro=true nospacecheck=true"
This will, of course, allow you to open the game via Steam in windowed mode. However, unless your monitor is natively run at a resolution of 800 by 600, the game will not really work after you get past the menu. You also need to tell the game to run at a resolution of 800 by 600.
To do so, you need to find the location where you installed the game. For that, it's probably found in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dungeon Siege 2"
From there, you need to double click on "DS2VideoConfig.exe". Under the resolution drop down menu (middle one), you need to select a resolution of "800x600x32". Click OK. This should allow you to run the game in windowed mode and also enable you to record it as well. You might be able to get a better resolution by fiddling with the resolution settings, but a bad resolution will mean that pause menu items (what you get when you hit escape) will not display the text of the buttons if the resolutions are wrong. All of this is a pain, but at least it doesn't require running outside the Steam environment and through a third party application to run properly.
