In this first of a two-part interview series, John sits down with Eugene, the solo-developer of the extremely impressive (and artist-friendly!) VICO Dynamics Unreal Engine plugin. The plugin is hardware agnostic and has easily-integrated tools to handle rope, cloth, and soft-body simulations.
This first installment covers a variety of topics, starting with the origins of Eugene's software & game development journey versus a "traditional" education. From there he walks us through his initial need for a rope simulation plugin for a game he and his partner were working on (Action Arcade Wrestling), and from there how it evolved into a Unreal Marketplace plugin available to anyone.
The guys also talk about how some giant companies, such as Nvidia, have released (at one point) Unreal physics & simulation engines...but how they were tied to specific hardware.
Eugene talks about some really fun use-case scenarios that companies have used his system for, showing the complete gamut of the system's flexibility.
This interview has been in-the-works for a long time, so we're ultra-excited for you to finally be able to enjoy it.
Once you finish -- check out Part 2 of our interview with Eugene, which covers how he and his company used it within their game, platforms the system works on...and a whole lot more!
