Simulation games are usually overrated nowadays, with walking simulators, homeless simulators, surgeon simulators, and bla bla bla. So many simulators nowadays that the word doesn't mean anything today. But that's just me ranting. Actual simulators, at least early ones look like this: Su 27 Flanker, along with the F-15 classic one.
Su 27 Flanker was developed by Eagle Dynamics and published by Strategic Simulations in 1995 for Windows and MS-DOS platforms. An outstanding achievement in terms of representation and quite accurate, with a few exceptions obviously.
This one is quite great, after Flight Simulator, and it's combat involved. The best thing for this game for me is the camera functions, you can basically do missile follow and get a very cinematic take with ease, contributing to the spectacular display of simulation (it's 1995, remember).
Su 27 Flanker puts you in the cockpit of a SU-27 aircraft modeled quite accurately, a russian fighter plane introduced in 1985 that is currently still in service (typical russian stuff, built to last a century). The simulation, even though not visually realistic in today's standard, is actually quite accurate in terms of physics (to me at least).
Instead of showing my incompetency to fly planes, because I often end up crashing or depleting my fuel, I let the original demo playout itself, it does much more impressive things that what I might be able to show. I remember having quite a hard time figuring out how to fight a missile even.
