The idea of making main female characters in games has been called too difficult, too expensive, and is generally treated with much more uproar than there really needs to be... evidenced especially in the latest backlash against Ubisoft for not having a female character option for Assassin's Creed: Unity. One developer said (perhaps offhandedly) that it would be too difficult, which many people did not really buy as a very good reason. And its not just female characters either...it's fairly uncommon to see a well-done ethnic minority lead either, and Ubisoft is hardly the only company that seems to reflect this view. Representation is important and not a super difficult or illogical choice, especially as games evolve not just technologically, but in their storytelling.
