This is a very annoying segment for many reasons, but the main reason is Jenova. If you're doing a perfect run, she will be your worst nightmare. This battle needs to play out perfectly, and the chance of that happening is close to zero. I got as close as I could to the perfect battle once, but then luck wasn't on my side at the end of the segment.

To reach Jenova, you have to do several annoying things. The first is to climb up and talk to Tifa. That ladder is the epitome of evil, and I'm very grateful it's in the beginning of the segment. It originally was at the end of the last segment, but then I screwed up an almost perfect segment there. If you survive the ladder, you need to talk to Aerith, and while that is much eaiser, you still have to navigate through a lot of shit and you can easily get stuck unless you know exactly what you're doing.

After talking to Barret, it's menu time. First, you have to form a party. Not too bad. The next thing, however, is much worse. Four things must be done in the menu, and they must be done quickly. In other, you can easily fail here. However, after 100+ attempts, this wasn't really a problem.

Then there's Jenova. First of all, I should be able to use a Grenade before her first turn. Then she must use Stop and it must miss. Then she must only use Laser once, and it must hit Cloud. Then she must only use Tail Laser once, then only W-Laser once and finally not use Gas. You don't wanna know what the odds are. However, my Cloud was only a few EXP away from level 12, which turned out to make a HUGE difference. On level 12, he would have dealt more than 60 damage more with Braver, which would have eliminated one turn and reduced the amount of luck required a little. However, with my level 11 Cloud, it was almost impossible to kill her before the second Stop, so in the end I thought "screw this battle". I probably ended up losing about 20 seconds in this segment, but I don't care. This speed run has never been perfect, and I just want to finish it.

Of course, you're not home safe when you beat Jenova. You have to do a few simple things in Costa del Sol that aren't much to worry about, but then there is the world map. In order to reach Mt. Corel without saving twice, you need to get as far as possible on the world map before you save. When I had my best attempt ever last year, I must have gotten a battle at the earliest point possible.

I hope you understand why this segment has been a pain in the ass. It is without a doubt the most annoying segment so far. However, it only gets worse. Next, I have to steal four Right Arms. The first segment isn't too bad, and you can probably expect it next month, but the one after that will probably send me to a mental institution unless I do something controversial in order to get the the last Right Arms. We'll see.
