GDC: Expeditions: Conquistador Interview
We caught up with creative director Jonas Waever from Logic Artists to discuss the novel turn-based strategy RPG Expeditions: Conquistador.
"We wanted to do something different, something that would stand out. The setting itself lends itself fantastically to this kind of game, because one of the best parts of the role-playing genre is the exploration of it, the chance to engage with this enormous open world and of course, that's what the age of exploration was all about. Hence the name."
The Logic Artists team used Kickstarter to fund part of the development, and this is how the whole process was described:
"First we had to fund the development of a prototype ourselves, and then after about four months we launched a Kickstarter based on that prototype so we could show people that we knew what we were doing, we had something that was playable. Kickstarter helped us raise 77,000 dollars and then with that we funded another 4-5 months of development until we had another product where we could get an actual investor to help us finish it and get it to market."
