Geist Force - Intro Sequence - Unreleased Dreamcast Game
Yay - I got 20 Subscribers so I'll upload a couple of videos to celebrate.
These are strange and unsettling times across the globe as we all go into Lockdown. I'll be trying to upload a video a day if I can just to do my bit to make social distancing slightly more tolerable. Please respect the guidelines and let's all get through this together.
Geist Force was a on-rails shooter that Sega were touting at Trade Shows prior to the release of the Dreamcast console with many seeing it as an attempt to bring a Star Fox type experience to the system. I believe it was Rabbit Punch that were developing the game. It was therefore one of the first game sin development for the system. It was never actually released and was quietly cancelled.
A few years back an enterprising group from the now defunct Assemblergames Forums got an early version via a fundraising campaign of which I was one of the backers and with much hard work got this early incomplete game running again. Backers such as myself got a specially pressed disk which runs on stock hardware.
The game is very incomplete - effectively an intro sequence - shown here which has no sound and has to be selected from the menu. I've cut the loading screens prior to this. Level 1 is essentially fully playable (see my other videos) although prone to slowdown and crashing. Level 2 is playable until the boss encounter where the game flips out (see my other videos) and then the remaining levels are essentially placeholders with no collision detection.
Remarkable considering this was pre-release and presumably running on development hardware with unknown final specifications. Shame it got cancelled as it was shaping up to be a solid early title.
Graphically it is sharp and detailed for such an early game. Special shout out to the Emoji type face of one of the characters - presumably a placeholder but seriously - give this guy his own game :-)
It is hard to play through the capture card but hopefully this gives you a flavour of the game though. I did crop the image slightly due to interference that was distracting.
As always if you enjoy this video let me know. As always this is running on original hardware. Also let me know if there are particular games or systems you'd like to see.
As always this is uploaded under the Fair Use Policy - no money is being made from this video.
